남편이 받은 스트레스 에 아내가 살찐다” - 만성 스트레스란 1년 이상 지속돼 전신을 무력하게 하는 돈 문제, 업무상 스트레스, 장기적인 병간호 등을 뜻한다. 그 결과 부부는 다른 한쪽이 스트레스를 받을 때 자신들의 몸무게가 늘어나는 경향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 여성들이 남편의 스트레스에 더 많은 영향을 받았다. 남편들도 아내가 불안·초조하고 피로감을 호소할 경우 살이 찌는 경향이 있었지만 아내들만큼 심각하지는 않았다. 최종 평가에서 배우자의 스트레스로 비만에 걸릴 위험은 남편 66%, 여성 70%였다.
